Our program does not require a referral. However, your insurance provider may require you to obtain a referral from your PCP (primary care physician). Please check with your insurance provider, especially if you have an HMO or POS policy.
We accept most major insurance plans. Prior to your consultation, we will verify your insurance benefits and contact you regarding your coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
Financing options are available. A financial counselor will be happy to discuss the available options with you after your initial consultation.
During your consultation, you will meet with the surgeon to discuss your transition goals and the surgical options available to reach those goals. The surgeon will review the risks and benefits of the procedures you discuss. Your surgeon will perform a physical exam, and you will have a thorough discussion about your medical history, surgical history and any medications you take. The goal for the consultation is for you to leave with an understanding of the proposed treatment plan and next steps.
The most important information to bring to your consultation is a list of questions. It is not unusual to be very excited and/or nervous during your consultation, and it can be easy to forget the things you want to discuss. Writing down your questions will help you stay on track. If you already have your letters of support for surgery, please bring them to the consultation as this will speed up the process.
Each person’s treatment plan is different, and the next steps after the consultation will vary based on your individual circumstances and needs. If your surgeon determines that testing or additional treatment is needed before surgery, we can arrange that for you.
We will work with your insurance provider to obtain an approval for your treatment plan. If you are paying out-of-pocket, we will provide you a cost estimate.
Your surgical procedure(s) can be scheduled once you have been medically cleared for surgery by any and all surgeons involved in your case, AND after we have received prior authorization from your insurance plan (or you agree to the cost estimate if you do not have insurance coverage for your procedure).
