Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center operates as the only pediatric burn program in Houston. Children are admitted and treated by board-certified pediatric surgeons who provide the full range of services, including care for minor burns, skin grafting and reconstructive surgery for severe burns. The care team consists of affiliated with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and its medical practice, UT Physicians.

Specialized care is available for nearly every type of burn injury – chemical, friction, scald, flame and electrical – as well as inhalation injuries and certain skin disorders requiring complicated wound management. When children need burn care and treatment, our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) offers patients and their families a unique environment to receive care and stay together. This 22-bed lifesaving unit features a dedicated pediatric burn treatment room with equipment for wound cleansing, burn supplies, anesthesia administration and more.

The multidisciplinary team includes pediatric surgeons, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, plastic surgeons and others specializing in burn care. Together, the care providers also offer treatment for skin grafts and scar management. Additionally, follow-up burn care for pediatric patients is provided through an outpatient pediatric burn program.

Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital  is a certified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and is part of the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the country. As part of the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center campus, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital serves as the only hospital in Greater Houston capable of treating the entire family unit in the same facility, providing neonatal, pediatric and adult care.

Children with burns that cover more than 30% of the body are transported by the Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care Transport Team via Memorial Hermann Life Flight® to Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, a nonprofit pediatric burn hospital.
