Memorial Hermann offers antepartum care for expectant mothers who aren't quite ready to deliver. Most patients, if close to delivery and having contractions, will go directly to a labor and delivery unit, but some may stay in the antepartum unit initially, depending on their specific condition.

Many conditions may warrant admission to the antepartum unit including:

  • Pre-term labor
  • Pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Premature rupture of membranes
  • Bleeding disorders - placenta previa, placental abruption, etc.
  • Asthma
  • Post-surgery complications

Most antepartum patients arrive between 30 and 32 weeks, and a three- to four-week stay is typical. Some are in just for a day or two, while others stay for up to 12 weeks. Whatever your physician recommends, Memorial Hermann is here to accommodate your needs.
