Alyssa’s Journey Through Scoliosis Surgery and Recovery
A pediatric checkup revealed what Alyssa couldn’t feel. She had adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), a curvature of the spine that was already at 36 degrees.

At the time, they were living in Louisiana and chose to simply monitor the condition. As Kiely grew, the curvature on her back became more noticeable.
Diagnosed with Hurler-Scheie syndrome at just 10 years old, Rylee hasn’t had an easy journey, but her strength and positive attitude have never wavered through it all.
Kaylah received a diagnosis of scoliosis during a routine doctor’s exam while in elementary school. The timing of her diagnosis is very common between the ages of 10 and 18.
“There isn’t a thing out there that stops me. When I got the scoliosis diagnosis, I had to rethink how I was going to live life. But you can’t give up,” said Collin.
