TIRR Memorial Hermann Designated as a “National Rehabilitation Innovation Center”

TIRR Memorial Hermann is honored to be designated as a national rehabilitation innovation center as a result of legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden on Jan. 5, 2023. The Dr. Joanne Smith Memorial Rehabilitation Innovation Centers Act of 2022 recognizes a leading class of pioneering rehabilitation research facilities across the country, including TIRR Memorial Hermann, which set the standard for ongoing study and patient care.

Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems Program

One of only 14 sites in the country designated as a Traumatic Brain Injury Model System by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), TIRR Memorial Hermann uses this grant to investigate the effects of traumatic brain injury on social communication.

Accreditation Status

Joint Commission National Quality Approval Gold SealTIRR Memorial Hermann has earned its Acute Care accreditation through the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

In addition, TIRR Memorial Hermann has also been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which signals TIRR Memorial Hermann’s commitment to continually improving services, encouraging feedback, and serving the community.

Pathway to Excellence® Program

Pathway to Excellence Designated SealThe Pathway to Excellence Program from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recognizes health care organizations for positive practice environments where nurses excel. Pathway to Excellence hospitals improve nurse satisfaction, retain choice nursing staff and leaders, and demonstrate inter-professional teamwork.

In 2013, TIRR Memorial Hermann was recognized by the ANCC with the Pathway to Excellence designation - the precursor for Magnet® status. A Pathway to Excellence hospital is a champion of high quality nursing practice.

TIRR Memorial Hermann’s Pathway to Excellence is a journey of accomplishments in quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction, operational excellence, nurse recruitment and retention, and individual achievements. For example, between 2007 and 2016 the proportion of Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRNs) increased from 45% to 66%. In 2015, TIRR Memorial Hermann was re-designated. This attests to the RN’s staff commitment to excellence and personal goal achievement.

Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare's Healing Healthcare Initiative

TIRR Memorial Hermann has been selected as one of only six health organizations across the U.S. to participate in the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare’s inaugural Healing Healthcare Initiative (HHI). The Schwartz Center, a national organization whose mission is to put compassion at the heart of health care, launched this initiative to guide organizational leaders in reimagining how their workplace can better support the well-being of health workers, allowing health workers to focus on delivering equitable and compassionate patient care. The initiative will help our organization to create a roadmap to ensure our workforce and patients can continue to flourish.
