“Sugar Land residents in need of rehabilitation services no longer have to drive to the Texas Medical Center to find the same superior quality care provided at TIRR Memorial Hermann,” says Jessica De La Rosa, PT, DPT, NCS, director of TIRR Memorial Hermann Outpatient Rehabilitation. “We saw a special need to serve the pediatric population in the West Houston area. Because of the shortage of outpatient facilities equipped to serve kids, parents are using home health for rehabilitation. Using advanced equipment under the guidance of therapists with specialized training, TIRR Memorial Hermann produces better outcomes.” The Center’s pediatric therapy area is separate from facilities used by adults, with its own entrance from the waiting room.

The same programs offered at other TIRR Memorial Hermann outpatient sites – with the addition of aquatic therapy – are offered in Sugar Land, including lymphedema management, balance and vestibular therapy, vision therapy, therapy for limb loss and LSVT BIG® and LSVT LOUD®, treatments proven to be effective for improving functional mobility and speech in people with Parkinson’s disease. In addition to vision rehabilitation, occupational therapists perform pre-driving screens, which include a comprehensive battery of tests, and make their recommendations to physicians about further testing needed to ensure a safe return to driving.

A Bertec balance system allows therapists to assess and treat balance and vestibular disorders by combining immersive virtual reality with highly sensitive dynamic force plate capabilities, resulting in improved outcomes. Other equipment includes body-weight support treadmill training, a Bioness® Integrated Therapy System (BITS™) for vision rehabilitation and Bioness Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) technology for the arms and legs.

The Center, which has private treatment rooms, an open gym and easy access to parking, is located at 1111 Highway 6 about a mile north of the intersection of Highway 59. For more information, please call (832) 658-3200.
