Carl Josehart -2016As we extend our reach across the city of Houston and to surrounding communities, we’re also reaching out to patients in other countries by formalizing the TIRR Memorial Hermann International Rehabilitation Program. Physicians have referred patients to our facility for many years now, primarily from the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa. As our program grows, our affiliated physicians and therapists are helping more people with rehabilitation issues that previously went unaddressed. We recently presented an award to an entire team that provided care in a culturally sensitive way to an extraordinary patient from the Middle East.

In this issue we celebrate the opening of our stunning new inpatient unit at TIRR Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands. The new unit features self-contained “neighborhoods,” each with community dining and gym space, a reflection of our philosophy of removing barriers to full participation in the community.

TIRR Memorial Hermann was a major sponsor of this year’s Ms. Wheelchair Texas Gala, in collaboration with the Ms. Wheelchair Texas Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that strives to improve the lives of people with disabilities through advocacy and education. The gala and other events we sponsor throughout the year are focused on community reentry and our belief that we won’t be truly successful until people with disabilities are meaningfully engaged in all parts of life.
