Maternity Tours

With a free tour of our Women’s Center, you’ll see why Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is Houston’s preferred birth hospital. You’ll get an “up close and personal” look at our award-winning services and amenities, and we’ll answer any questions. We can also pre-register you to make sure that everything is taken care of before arrival day comes.

Classes

Memorial Hermann offers a full range of educational resources for expectant parents, including live and online classes, community events, and support groups to enhance your experience and help prepare you for the joys of parenthood.

We provide classes for new parents and refresher courses for current parents on childbirth education, newborn care, breastfeeding, infant CPR, and related topics. In addition, we offer classes for other family members, including grandparents and siblings, to provide opportunities for learning and support. Find an in-person or virtual class and register online, or call (713) 222-CARE to register by phone.

Family-Focused Parent Education

Memorial Hermann is committed to engaging families and equipping parents with tools and important co-parenting skills to improve family functioning. Join a Memorial Hermann course facilitator and other parents online for interactive sessions to better prepare yourself to be an involved, engaged, and positive co-parent and partner. Separate sessions are offered for moms and for dads at no charge, and can be taken as desired.

Session topics for all single/married moms and dads include:

• Promoting mental, emotional, physical health, and family connectedness.
• Building and improving family functioning.
• Applying strategies and tools to increase healthy self-care practices.
• Improving self-awareness of past and present family factors.
• Developing healthy communication and conflict management skills.
• Understanding strategies and techniques to overcome stress as a parent.
• Identifying early warning signs of Post-Partum Depression (PPD)

Childbirth Education

Provided for expectant mothers and fathers, this course offers instruction, education and discussion of matters related to pregnancy and the birth experience, including:

• Physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy
• Relaxation exercises
• Breathing techniques
• The stages of labor and birth
• Anesthesia options
• Cesarean birth
• Caring for your newborn
• Breastfeeding

Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is committed to the 10-step program for successful breastfeeding, because we believe that is the best form of nutrition for your new baby. So we’ve developed a special 90-minute course that helps expectant parents learn proper breastfeeding techniques and better understand why they are so vital to the health of your new baby.

Infant Care for New Parents

A new baby means new experiences and challenges for your family. We make sure you’re ready. This course provides the know-how and skills you’ll need to care for your infant and offers insight on how the new arrival can affect family dynamics.

Big Brothers and Sisters Classes

It’s not just moms and dads, but siblings who are also changed by the arrival of a baby. That’s why Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital holds special classes just for new brothers and sisters. They’ll learn ways to hold, diaper, burp and feed babies. And each child who attends gets a certificate showing he or she is ready to help mom and dad provide effective, loving care.
