As health care continues to evolve, Memorial Hermann remains committed to ensuring we seamlessly adapt to change and address system and industry-wide challenges, while continuing to deliver high-value care for the communities we serve.

To further deliver on this commitment, Memorial Hermann launched the Innovation Hub.  An initiative designed to further our own organization’s evolution by fostering a culture of innovation, the Innovation Hub allows us to think creatively and develop new solutions to grow and improve our services, capabilities, processes and operations.

Using a pilot-and-scale model to rapidly deploy solutions, the Innovation Hub can better realize its mission to leapfrog our system’s current capabilities within the health care industry, allowing us to address and overcome some of health care’s most challenging barriers in a timely manner. Through pilots that strategically introduce new processes or technology into care delivery at selected sites, Memorial Hermann can test the feasibility and impact of pilots and make any necessary modifications before scaling them up across the entire system.

Innovation Hub in Action

At Memorial Hermann, innovation in delivering care is shaped and influenced by the challenges our patients, providers and surrounding communities face.

To address those challenges, we have to think creatively and innovatively across clinical, operational and consumer experience areas. Solutions must optimize the patient, provider and consumer experience and engagement, advance health equity efforts by increasing access to high-value care and affordability, while enhancing employee and physician well-being.

Since its debut in 2022, the Innovation Hub has launched some exciting pilots that address system and industry pain points and help accelerate Memorial Hermann’s efforts to achieve value for our patients.

Below are a few examples of ways we are piloting innovation across Memorial Hermann today.

Optimizing the Patient and Clinician Experience

Delivering on our commitment to create personalized and compassionate patient experiences also requires addressing the well-being of our clinicians. Below are a few ways the Innovation Hub is infusing innovative solutions across the system to further optimize both patient and clinician experiences.

Ambience is an ambient listening technology that listens to the conversation between a provider and patient and translates the conversation into a comprehensive chart. Ambience saves significant time for our providers and improves communication and engagement during patient visits.

Since January 2024, Ambience pilots were launched at various Memorial Hermann Medical Group (MHMG) locations as well as by hospital and emergency medicine providers across Memorial Hermann. We are continuing to add interested pilot participants and are working on scaling to other areas of the organization as we further evaluate the value of the Ambience AutoScribe tool in various settings.

Advancing Health Access and Engagement

To help us further deliver on our commitment to create opportunities for everyone to live the healthiest life possible, below are a few ways the Innovation Hub is infusing innovative solutions across the organization to further advance health access and foster a more equitable health care system.

SafeRide is a platform that helps health care providers schedule transportation for patients with transportation barriers. The service is intended to help patients attend their follow-up medical visits post-discharge and help them access nonmedical services that impact medical outcomes (i.e., visits to the Memorial Hermann Community Resource Centers as well as food pantries and pharmacies). The platform addresses transportation as a barrier to health care access by offering dependable and convenient nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) to some of the most vulnerable populations.

In September 2024, a SafeRide pilot was launched within Memorial Hermann’s Community Benefits inpatient programs. Following a successful pilot, our “Food is More” program and Community Resource Center pharmacists will utilize SafeRide for their customers in late 2025. The pilot will further scale to our Emergency Center Navigation Multi-Visit Patient Program as a phase-two rollout.

Innovation Hub Programs

In addition to advancing a portfolio of pilot-to-scale projects, the Innovation Hub is further creating a forward-thinking environment for Memorial Hermann’s workforce by offering opportunities that enhance our ability to create high-value care for patients and populations.

Launched in April 2025, the Innovation Hub’s Champion Program is a professional development program that engages Memorial Hermann employees from across the System to participate in an initiative that is designed to mentor and empower individuals to become champions for innovation and an extension of the Innovation Hub.

Champions are selected by the Innovation Hub’s senior leadership team for their ability to embrace change and may select to participate in one of two tracks: Culture, Change & Engagement and Innovative Pilot Project Support. Program participants surface pain points, lead rounding sessions and connect innovation to organizational strategy as part of their participation in the program. Champions foster a “learn fast, adapt faster” mindset and provide project support from ideation to pilot implementation, while continuing to advance a culture of innovation at Memorial Hermann.

In 2025, the Innovation Hub partnered with the Center for Device Innovation @ Texas Medical Center to expand opportunities for employees and physicians to ideate, prototype and commercialize health care solutions. Through this program, cohort participants receive training in device design, regulatory pathways and commercialization through accelerator workshops.

This strategic collaboration establishes the foundation of an internal innovation infrastructure, giving frontline staff a structured pathway to translate insights into intellectual property and scalable products.
