While there will be plenty to celebrate during the World Cup, it’s also an important time to educate ourselves and audiences about the risks of sexual assault and human trafficking that come with large-scale events.
“When you have these large world events, they unfortunately attract certain perpetrators to come in and take advantage of the celebrations,” said Dr. Sally Henin, Chief of Medical Operations-Forensic Nursing Services at Memorial Hermann Health System. “This is happening in every community in the United States and around the world, but these large events make it more prevalent.”
