Twin sisters Rachel Schmidtberger and Lindsey Denny have done everything together, from undergrad and medical school at the University of Texas, to becoming dermatologists at the same practice. So it comes as no surprise that when Rachel went into labor, so did Lindsey. They gave birth on the same day, almost exactly 12 hours apart. Both women welcomed their baby boys on August 26th at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The completely unplanned coincidence came after Lindsey, who struggled with fertility issues, learned around Christmas that she had conceived after “giving up.” Her family’s joy grew even greater upon learning that her twin, Rachel, was also pregnant – and due on the same exact day.

Rachel and Lindsey were shocked at first, but quickly accepted this as another “twin connection” – with help from their shared OB/GYN, who they fondly refer to as a magician. Dr. Sharon Vila-Wright was thrilled to deliver both babies after changing her schedule.

In addition to sharing a birthday, the boys are also genetically half-siblings. Their moms have taken to calling them “brother cousins.” Rachel and her husband, Michael, welcomed Owen Michael Hamilton; while Lindsey and her husband Jared welcomed Hayes Michael Denny. The boys earned their middle names from their fathers.
