Ava Soliz was just a teenager when osteosarcoma forced her to make an unimaginable choice: undergo a total knee replacement or amputate her leg above the knee.
Ava chose amputation — and refused to let cancer end the athletic life she loved. After rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann, she returned to competition, playing golf during her senior year and winning a silver medal in adaptive seated shot put at the state championships.
Now, as she begins her freshman year at Texas Christian University, Ava has another goal: becoming a physician to help kids facing challenges similar to her own.
