Dr. William Baumgartner, UTHealth anesthesiologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann, has family ties to the construction of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Dr. Baumgartner’s great-great-grandfather was a local minister in the 1920’s who gave the dedication speech when they laid the cornerstone for Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Dr. Baumgartner was able to give a speech at the ceremony about how this family history, as well as the teachings of the late Dr. James “Red” Duke, helped to inspire him to become a physician.
