After breaking ground in May 2025, the simulated hospital at Aldine ISD and Memorial Hermann’s Health Education and Leadership (HEAL) High School is complete.

Located on the campus of Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas, HEAL High School’s 6,500 square foot simulated hospital is a space where students can get hands-on training in spaces nearly identical to those found in a hospital campus. The simulated hospital was made possible as part of a $31 million gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies to Memorial Hermann Foundation that helped make HEAL High School a reality.

The simulated hospital contains:
•        Two medical-surgical patient rooms, which will be the same as patient rooms at Memorial Hermann hospitals.
•        Two ICU rooms, complete with a nurse’s station with two windows where the nurses can view the patients. The ICU space is connected to an AnteRoom, where patients will learn how to don personal protective equipment before entering the isolation room.
•        Located outside of the ICU will be a nurse’s station featuring a real pneumatic tube system. The system will not be functional but will show students how medications are moved between different areas via a network of sealed carriers.
•        An imaging room, where a working x-ray machine is housed.
•        A mock pharmacy, like our in-hospital pharmacies, featuring medication racks, vials, and other equipment to simulate mixing medications. This will also feature a negative pressure room with equipment where students can simulate mixing medications. This room will feature negative air monitors and equipment to manage air flow.
