Dr. Jyothi Lagisetty, an emergency room physician at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, and her husband, Captain Andy Roseborrough of the Houston Fire Department, were enjoying a vacation in Mexico this past April when gunfire suddenly erupted near the Temple of the Moon. In that moment of fear and chaos, Dr. Lagisetty and Captain Roseborrough instinctively sought safety, but quickly turned their attention to those in need. While others fled, they bravely ran toward the danger, discovering a child who had been shot.

Collaborating under extraordinarily challenging circumstances, they assessed the child's condition, worked to stop the bleeding, and provided critical lifesaving care. Their courage and commitment to service exemplified the true spirit of first responders.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire honored them with a city proclamation at City Hall on Tuesday, June 9, in recognition of their swift actions, calm leadership, and selfless dedication.
