Dr. Majid Basit, interventional cardiologist with Memorial Hermann, speaks about how Daylight Saving Time can affect heart health and heart attack likelihood. What’s amazing is, that extra hour of sleep has proven crucial for our health. In fact, studies have found a 21 percent drop in the number of heart attacks on the Tuesday after we fall back, when we gain an hour of sleep. However, when we lose an hour of sleep in the spring there's a 24 percent increase in the number of heart attacks the Monday after spring forward. Dr. Basit says it really shows just how important sleep is when it comes to our health. When we disrupt our circadian rhythms it can really impact our health.
