Two new furry employees have joined the team at Children’s Memorial Hermann! The hospital recently expanded its facility dog program from 3 to 5 canine team members. The newest hires, Stephan and Boris, completed a rigorous training program before “graduating” to be paired with their new handlers on the Child Life team.
Stephan, a golden retriever, and Boris, a Labrador mix, will work directly with patients in the pediatric heart center, oncology unit, and outpatient clinics. Their many skills include demonstrating procedures, medical play, helping with physical therapy, and easing anxiety during what can be a scary time for many young patients.
They were warmly welcomed by four-legged coworkers Dexter, Pilot, and Declan, and are fitting right in.
