BJ Smith was gravely injured after being thrown from an ATV in 2005. Multiple brain surgeries led to his therapy and now 20 years later, he has returned to Memorial Hermann to inspire other patients and their families. Like so many others, BJ had to learn again to walk, talk and even feed himself. Since then, BJ and his mother started a non-profit that brings awareness to brain injuries and various therapies, including art.
Smith met with patients and caregivers inside TIRR Memorial Hermann and talked about the importance of a positive attitude, patience and perseverance. Throughout his recovery, he found that art has helped him endure.
