It’s a very special week at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, as facility dog Boris turns 3 years old! Boris, who joined the Child Life team a year ago, celebrated in style at his Toy Story-themed birthday party. He was surrounded by patients, staff members, and of course, his four-legged co-workers: Dexter, Stephan, and Declan.

Boris – dressed as “Buzz”– posed for photos while patients made birthday crafts in his honor, including their own versions of “Forky” from Toy Story. Boris was presented with his own Forky and Mr. Potato Head toys, which he promptly shared with his fellow facility dogs.

Each of these good boys play a vital role in the healing journey of pediatric patients. Since joining the team, Boris has become a “consult” facility dog, meaning he travels throughout the entire hospital to meet patients who will benefit from his help. He can provide emotional comfort, play therapy, and even demonstrate medical procedures. His Child Life handler, Rachel, describes him as “always ready to go and help the next patient.”

Cheers to you, Boris!
