Having a disability shouldn’t stop anyone from participating in a wide variety of activities and events around Houston.
That was the theme of a first-of-its-kind expo in Houston. The ReelCommunity event included a number of exhibitors who highlighted inclusive recreation, arts and leisure activities like skateboarding, rock climbing, jiu jitsu and pickleball. These are events designed specifically for those with disabilities.
The goal is to change perceptions and remove stigma surrounding people with disabilities, helping people in the community make connections with these exhibitors and feel more comfortable going to them since they know they will be welcomed and included.
The ReelCommunity event capped off two weeks of the “ReelAbilities” Houston festival, promoting inclusion and celebrating the lives, stories and talents of people with disabilities, making an impact that lasts far beyond just this event.
TIRR Memorial Hermann is a Founding partner in all the ReelAbilities events, including the ReelCommunity Expo.
