School hasn’t started yet, but these future med students are ready to learn. Local high schoolers got to put their skills to the test this week as they consider a future in medicine. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land hosted the 3rd annual “Hands-On Health Care” session, offering students the opportunity to participate in a series of medical simulations.

The future health care hopefuls rotated through stations where they practiced suturing, intubation, IV placement, and robotic surgery. They learned critical skills like CPR, analyzing lab samples, and even got to simulate delivering a baby.

Dr. Majid Basit was inspired by his teenage daughter, who helped him start the program after recognizing there are not many hands-on opportunities for prospective med students. They wanted to encourage more students to enter health care by providing direct inspiration.
