Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center staff and leaders were honored this week by Mayor John Whitmire at Houston City Hall for their 100th anniversary.

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center opened its doors July 1, 1925, as Hermann Hospital, the first hospital in what would become the world-famous Texas Medical Center. For the past century, Memorial Hermann-TMC has set the standard for high-quality, leading-edge care in Houston. 

Some notable achievements in the 100-year history of Memorial Hermann-TMC include:
In 1925, Hermann Hospital opened in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, and in 1943, was the first hospital in Texas to receive penicillin.
In 1976, Hermann Life Flight, now Memorial Hermann Life Flight® was established as the first air medical transport service in Texas and second in the United States.
In 1985, Children’s Memorial Hermann hospital opened its doors.
In 1997, the merger of Memorial and Hermann combined the resources of two prominent institutions to create a comprehensive health care system that expanded health care options for Houstonians.
As a Level I Trauma Center, and one of only two in Greater Houston, Memorial Hermann-TMC currently provides 24-hour emergency and trauma care to more than 40,000 patients each year.
As the primary teaching hospital for McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Memorial Hermann-TMC provides exceptional care in general surgery, heart, neuroscience, oncology, organ transplantation, orthopedics, pediatrics, primary care, trauma, and women's health.
