Jerry had just returned to work as a nurse in the Emergency Center after recovering from kidney surgery. Later that afternoon, he suffered a massive heart attack caused by an aneurysm rupture on his kidney that would have been fatal if he’d been at home. Lucky for Jerry he was at work that day. His coworkers rushed him from the ER to the cath lab. Despite their quick action, doctors gave Jerry only a minimal chance of survival. But his team stabilized his condition so he could undergo open-heart surgery. After more than 20 years of working at Memorial Hermann, Jerry says it felt like the entire hospital rallied to save him. He knows if he hadn’t been at work that day, he wouldn’t be here now to tell his amazing story.
