Dr. Francisco Guerra Jr, MD

Originally from Houston, Dr. Francisco Guerra earned his undergraduate degree in physiology, with a minor in Spanish, at the University of Arizona in Tucson and his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He did his residency in general surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where he also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery, bariatrics and advanced gastrointestinal surgery.

Dr. Guerra, who is board certified in surgery, is also fluent in both written and spoken Spanish. He sees patients for hernias, reflux disease, gall bladder conditions, weight loss and other surgical procedures. In addition to general surgery, he has a special clinical interest in weight loss and performs gastric sleeves, gastric bypasses and other forms of weight-loss surgery. He applies his intensive training in robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery, which optimize patient recovery, to both general surgery and weight-loss procedures.

He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Guerra’s approach to care centers on the patient. He strives to create a comfortable environment where patients feel heard, respected, and not judged. He wants them to be comfortable talking with him and to feel supported by someone who cares about them and sees them as people and not just patients.
