Robert BlakeMembers of the Texas Nursing Association’s District 9 Chapter recently elected Robert Blake, RN, BSN, MS, chief operations officer of Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, to serve as the organization’s 2014-2015 president-elect and 2015-2016 president.

The Texas Nurses Association is a statewide, membership-based association of registered nurses. Founded in 1907, the Texas Nurses Association is the oldest professional nursing association in Texas. Its members represent all segments of nursing practice, but share a common purpose of advancing excellence in nursing.

“Nurses play a unique and critical role in today’s health care environment,” said Blake. “I look forward to working with community business and industry professionals to promote what nurses bring to the table in terms of their understanding of how health care works, patient advocacy, patient safety, and on-going research to promote the best health care outcomes achievable.”

With nearly 40,000 members, the Texas Nurses Association District 9 Chapter includes the counties of Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty Montgomery, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, and Waller.

Blake has held several positions of increasing responsibility at Memorial Hermann including chief clinical operations officer, system executive/chief nursing officer, assistant vice president of nursing, vice president of clinical operations, director of nursing, and assistant director of nursing. He holds a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing from Texas Women’s University, a Master in Business Administration from the University of Houston, and a Master in Divinity from the Houston Graduate School of Theology.
