The University Place Nursing Center, located next-door to the independent living apartments, is a highly rated skilled nursing facility (SNF) specializing in short-term, post-acute care for seniors, as well as long-term care for seniors who need around-the-clock care and other medical services.
The nursing center provides a wide range of care to suit each resident’s needs. Some residents require short-term stays for skilled nursing care following hospitalization, while others benefit from a long-term care option. Whatever the need, we understand that each patient’s recovery journey is unique, which is why our health care providers work with you and your loved ones to achieve optimal health and recovery based on each patient’s requirements.
Following a stay in the hospital due to an illness or surgery, some patients have continuing medical needs that may require specialized care. A SNF provides care to those who have been discharged from a hospital but still need additional time and assistance to recuperate. The facility serves as a transitional location between the hospital and the patient’s permanent residence, and provides access to various therapies, treatments and equipment that can help with rehabilitation, or until certain recovery goals are met.
A SNF is appropriate for patients that require 24/7 care from a team of specialists. This includes patients that need skilled nursing for a short time, while recovering from an illness or surgery, or for patients that need a long-term option to recuperate or adjust to permanent changes to their health. Whether you are planning elective surgery or looking for care for yourself or a loved one, the University Place Nursing Center is a quality option for specialized care.
University Place Nursing Center is part of the Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Network and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as being one of the best nursing facilities in Houston for 2019, 2020 and 2021 - receiving consistent, high-quality ratings.
Our skilled nursing services consist of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to caring for older adults. The team at our facility includes a medical director, 24-hour nursing care, therapists, a social worker and a chaplain, helping us to meet each resident’s needs physically, emotionally and socially.
In addition to providing exceptional medical services, University Place Nursing Center believes resident activities create and support an enriched environment that results in quality living. We encourage our residents to socialize and participate in activities to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Aside from the support of their family, many residents may benefit from forging friendships and may rely on other support systems during their stay at our facility. For this reason, we provide opportunities for one-on-one relationships, social group interaction, reality orientation and sensory stimulation, recreation and self-expression.
A full-time social services staff also provides for the needs of both residents and their family members who might have questions or concerns.
At the University Place Nursing Center, we understand that each patient’s recovery journey is different, which is why our skilled team of therapists provide a personalized plan of care based on an individual’s recovery goals.
We offer therapy services to patients in need of additional rehabilitative care, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. These therapy services can help patients regain strength and mobility as well as improve function after a hospital stay.
Whether recovering from a knee replacement or adjusting to permanent physical changes brought on by a medical condition, our therapists focus on helping each patient reach their maximum level of independence for an easier transition to daily life wherever the patient may call home.
Typically, skilled nursing is short-term, post-acute care overseen by a team of specialists that facilitate the transition between a hospital and the patient’s prior living arrangement. The University Place Nursing Center offers transitional care for those who need intensive nursing and therapy while they recuperate, but have an ultimate goal of transitioning back to their homes and lives once they regain optimal health. Our specialists provide a plan of care that enables patients to return home when they’ve reached their individual recovery goals.
Short-term care is beneficial to patients recovering from conditions such as surgeries, strokes, joint replacements, accidents, or similar illnesses and injuries.
For patients whose needs require broader attention, long-term care is available in the nursing center, where round-the-clock care is provided. Long-term care is beneficial for patients who have cognitive disorders, neurological conditions, and other conditions or disabilities that limit their ability to live independently. Candidates for long-term care usually have an ongoing health condition or a permanent disability. They may be affected by chronic illness, or due to advanced age, require assisted living for everyday activities. While long-term residents have access to skilled nursing and rehabilitation specialists at the nursing center, the same level of intensive medical care may not be required. Our long-term residents receive 24-hour nursing care, along with medication management and distribution by their doctors and nurses. While they are under a physician’s direct care, residents also have access to podiatrists, dentists and ophthalmologists through scheduled visits.
The University Place Nursing Center offers private pay options for long-term care in comfortable, affordable rooms. Our residents’ stay is highlighted by amenities such as pleasantly decorated private rooms with personal showers, and large private and semi-private rooms. Residents are usually encouraged to bring personal belongings to make their stay feel as homely as possible. Among other amenities, our chefs take great care in preparing delicious, nutritious foods that meet specialized diets and nutritional needs recommended by registered dietitians.
Friends and family are welcome to visit their loved ones inside the nursing center at any time, and we encourage their presence as much as possible. We believe that highly involved friends and families can help enrich the quality of patients’ lives, which is why we offer around-the-clock visitation hours.
Visitor policies may vary due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with our front desk for more information.
