Dr. Leyla Akhverdiyeva earned undergraduate degrees in molecular genetics and Russian at the University of Rochester (New York) and her medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her internship in general surgery and residency in urologic surgery at McGovern Medical School at of UT Health Houston.
Dr. Akhverdiyeva treats both men and women patients for a wide range of urologic problems concerning the urethra, bladder, and kidneys. Her primary clinical interests include treating complex kidney stones and BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), infertility, prostate and kidney cancer, pelvic organ prolapse and voiding dysfunction such as incontinence.
Her approach to care emphasizes treating the entire person, addressing the underlying causes rather than focusing only on the symptoms. She places her patients first, using evidence-based medicine to create treatment plans that fit their goals and specific lifestyle needs. She implements minimally invasive surgical techniques when necessary to improve patient’s recovery.
She is a member of the American Urological Association, Texas Medical Association, and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
