Dr. Teresa Pigott, MD

Teresa Pigott, MD, received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University, formerly known as the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, in Rootstown, Ohio. She then completed her psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, N.C. Dr. Pigott went on to do a research fellowship in psychopharmacology at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Bethesa, Maryland.

Board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), Dr. Pigott is clinically interested in adult general psychiatry, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and schizophrenia. Her research interests include mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychopharmacology. An accomplished clinician-researcher, she has published over a 100 abstracts and 75 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals as well as 20 book chapters. She has also served as the Principal Investigator on more than 85 clinical trials.

Currently, Dr. Pigott serves as a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston. In addition, she is the Director of Psychopharmacology at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC). Prior to joining McGovern Medical School, she served at the University of Florida College of Medicine for over 10 years.

Throughout her career, Dr. Pigott has been honored on numerous occasions. She has received the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from McGovern Medical School every year since 2011. She also has been recognized four times as the Outstanding Teacher by the second-year psychiatry residents. In addition to leading didactics as part of the Psychopharmacology Seminar Series for the residents, she also supervises second-year residents and medical students on her unit.

She cares for patients living in Bellaire, Galena Park, Houston, Pasadena, Pearland and South Houston.
