Dr. Shariar Akter, MD

Dr. Shariar Akter earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center as part of the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) residency program. Dr. Akter also served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics the year following residency.

Dr. Akter adopts an individualized approach with all of his patients and their parents. He sees patients from newborn to age 18. Dr. Akter treats patients for sick visits as well as preventive medicine, such as immunizations and wellness checkups. His clinical interests include providing long-term care for illnesses like asthma and helping to guide new parents into parenthood. 

As a father himself, Dr. Akter understands how helpful pediatricians can be to new parents, his goal is to ensure they feel comfortable asking him questions and ensuring the children are understood and listened to as well. 

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Akter is fluent in Bengali and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In his spare time, Dr. Akter enjoys completing do-it-yourself projects, spending time outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his wife and son.
