Dr. Rakibul Akter earned an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Houston and his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his residency with a focus on primary care at Texas Children’s Hospital (Baylor College of Medicine) in Houston.
Dr. Akter, who is board certified in pediatrics, sees patients from birth through adolescence. He provides well-child checks that focus on growth, development and overall health. He also treats acute illnesses such as common colds and ear infections; chronic conditions such as asthma and eczema; and behavioral health conditions such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety and depression.
His clinical interests include newborn/infant care and growth and development, where he focuses on educating families about various aspects of their child’s health such as nutrition and physical fitness. He also enjoys taking care of children with chronic or complex medical conditions.
His family-centered and evidence-based approach to patient care focuses on preventive medicine and patient education. Dr. Akter recognizes the importance of making families feel comfortable and treating children with compassion and individualized care. One of his favorite parts of being a pediatrician is being able to provide a medical home for children and developing long-term relationships with his patients and families.
Dr. Akter is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Texas Pediatric Society. He is fluent in Bengali.
In his free time, Dr. Akter enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing basketball and getting the opportunity to travel and explore the world.
