Dr. Heena Thakkar, MD

Dr. Heena Thakkar graduated from Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) in Mumbai, India. She then completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburg in Pennsylvania.

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Thakkar has been in practice since 1975. Her clinical interests include newborns, well-child care, preventive medicine, vaccinations, asthma and breastfeeding.

Comforting and personable, Dr. Thakkar has cared for three generations of children as her patients. Her philosophy is to treat each child and family individually. She makes herself accessible to her patients and takes the time needed to address each family’s concerns one by one. She speaks Hindi and Gujarati.

Dr. Thakkar has received numerous accolades including being named one of America’s Top Pediatricians by Consumers Research Council of America, a Texas Super Doc, a Top Doc for Kids in Houston and Physician of the Year in 2002 and 2003 by the Republican National Committee for her contribution to healthcare reform. She has served as Chair of Pediatrics at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital and was a Board Member of the Memorial Hermann Foundation. Dr. Thakkar currently is an assistant professor of pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston.

Dr. Thakkar enjoys practicing with her daughter, pediatrician Dr. Shilpa Panjaj, who joined her clinic in 2009. Away from the office, she enjoys traveling, going out with friends and spending time with her family, especially her two granddaughters.
