Dr. Christopher Greenleaf, MD

A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Christopher Greenleaf earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, a master’s in hospital administration from Widener University in Chester, Penn., and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Penn., and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson before completing a second fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.

Dr. Greenleaf, who has been in practice since 2010, is board certified in both general surgery and thoracic cardiovascular surgery. His primary clinical interest is in treating the most challenging heart defects.

He specializes in hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and other complex single ventricle patients; biventricular conversions and repairs for single ventricle patients; heterotaxy; aortic arch reconstruction and coarctation repairs without hypothermic circulatory arrest; atrial and ventricular septal defect; acquired heart disease in children; adult congenital heart surgery; heart transplantation and ventricular assistance devices (VAD); pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) and total anomalous pulmonary venous connections (TAPVC); anomalous coronary arteries including ALCAPA, ARCAPA and AAOCA; Shone’s complex (also known as Shone’s syndrome); Williams syndrome; DiGeorge syndrome; valve-sparing aortic root surgery; aortic surgery for connective tissue disorders such as Marfan, Loeys-Dietz and Ehlers-Danlos; patent ductus arteriosus; tetralogy of fallot; subaortic membrane and stenosis with aortic valve repair and resuscitation; repairs of the mitral valve, tricuspid valve, and aortic valve; and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

Dr. Greenleaf also performs complete neonatal repairs of pulmonary atresia; double outlet right ventricle (DORV) including Taussig Bing; major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAS); truncus arteriosus; and transposition of the great arteries.

An assistant professor of pediatric and congenital heart surgery in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Dr. Greenleaf is also a clinical scientist. His research interests include topics that move the specialty forward to help children and adults with heart disease and allow them to live life to the fullest.
