Dr. Grant Chen grew up in Houston and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rice University. After working at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company for several years, he decided to pursue a career in medicine. He underwent medical training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University in Saint Louis before completing his fellowship at three different institutions in New York City: New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Hospital for Special Surgery and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Chen is double board certified in anesthesiology and pain management. He is experienced in treating patients with acute or chronic pain and specializes in treating a wide range of pain conditions, including cancer pain, arthritic pain, neck and back pain, compression fractures, muscular pain, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, joint pain, abdominal pain, post-surgical pain, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, headaches, and more. He utilizes a combination of interventions and medical management to tailor treatment for his patients.

An associate professor and current chief of chronic pain medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Chen is committed to delivering excellent care and training the physicians of tomorrow. In addition to authoring several journal articles and textbooks, he has given many lectures and teaches physicians worldwide.

Beyond serving on the board of directors for the World Academy of Pain Medicine, Dr. Chen is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and Texas Pain Society.
