Dr. Cristin Mathew, DO

Dr. Cristin John Mathew earned his medical degree at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Va., where he worked with the Virginia Tech athletic program. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell Health in New York state and a fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Mathew has practiced since 2012.

One of his primary clinical interests is personalized, minimally invasive, muscle-sparing, robotically assisted joint replacements. With this technique, patients typically experience a significantly faster and less painful recovery with a more normal-feeling replacement, which may greatly improve pain levels and recovery time. He also performs complex joint preservation procedures, transplant surgery and fracture repair.

Dr. Mathew’s practice philosophy centers on providing advanced technology and treatment for his patients. He is active in mentoring students and physicians through academic affiliations with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He contributes to several professional publications, lectures at national meetings and serves as a researcher for several organizations focused on advancing patient care.
