Dr. Bita Esmaeli earned her medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. She completed her internship at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Esmaeli is board certified in ophthalmology. Her clinical interests are eyelid cancers, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, sebaceous cell carcinoma, melanoma, orbital tumors, lymphoma, lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma, pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland, other orbital tumors, conjunctival cancers, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma nevus lymphoma.
Her practice focuses on surgical treatment of orbital tumors, lacrimal gland carcinomas, eyelid cancers, melanoma of eyelid and conjunctiva and reconstructive surgery, including lacrimal and orbital surgery. With extensive experience in multidisciplinary care for rare ocular cancers, Dr. Esmaeli strives to preserve the eye and restore function and aesthetics in the patient while eliminating cancer and prolonging life.
Patients appreciate her unique expertise and extensive experience in treating rare cancers of the eye, eyelid, ocular surface and orbit, as well as her compassionate personalized care.
Dr. Esmaeli was a tenured Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from 1998 to 2024, where she served as Chief of Ophthalmology and the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Fellowship Program Director. She is currently an adjunct professor of Ophthalmology at UTHealth Houston’s Cizek Eye Center.
A resident of the Medical Center area, Dr. Esmaeli enjoys choir, music, acrylic painting and international travel when she is away from her practice.
