Dr. Jessica Jones, MD

Dr. Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Oncology at The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) McGovern Medical School in Houston. She received her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center (UT Health) Medical School in San Antonio. Dr. Jones completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology/Hematology from UT Health Medical School in San Antonio. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and oncology.

Dr. Jones was awarded the prestigious Joe and Teresa Lozano Long Presidential Scholar award in medical school, as well as the Dean’s Most Promising Research Award in 2010 for her work on “A Comparative Analysis of Human Plasma Glycoproteins By Age and Frailty Status”. She received an honorable mention in 2013 for the John Hopkins University Internal Medicine House-staff Research Award for her essay on “Breast Cancer Treatment Delays in a Majority Minority Community: Is There a Difference?”. Her peers selected her for the Most Compassionate Intern, and Most Compassionate Resident 2014-2015. Dr. Jones was awarded the prestigious McDonald Award of Excellence in Oncology in 2018 for her extensive research in breast cancer, research mentoring, and work in quality improvement.

Dr. Jones has been awarded the Dean’s Special Recognition for Teaching Excellence in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Dr. Jones has also won the prestigious Champion of the Clinical Learning Environment award in 2021. She has the honor of being a McGovern Society leader for the McGovern Medical School, and mentors both medical students as well as residents for internal medicine. She is an assistant program director for Internal Medicine residency, and a core faculty member for Hematology Oncology fellowship. Dr. Jones has a particular interest in curriculum development for both the Internal Medicine program and Hematology Oncology Fellowship. Dr. Jones believes education should be easily accessible, and readily available to all.

Dr. Jones is both a breast oncologist, and sarcoma oncologist. She has a special interest in cancer prevention, and outreach to patients who are at higher risk of breast cancer. Dr. Jones collaborates with different researchers all over the state of Texas to facilitate services, and outreach. Dr. Jones has particular interest in reaching disparate communities, and finding models to bridge the gap of morbidity and mortality for at risk communities. Dr. Jones is the founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention program, where she works with a comprehensive group of providers to provide care for women at higher risk of breast cancer. Dr. Jones also works closely with Drs. Conrad and Ho, where they have opened McGovern Medical School’s first Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Clinic to provide exceptional, comprehensive, and personalized care to sarcoma patients.

She is a mother of three boys, enjoys writing, and is active in community outreach supporting education. She is a strong advocate for patients, and frequently appears as an expert advisor to both local and national news syndicates. She is a strong supporter of early intervention for Autism, and education for all.
