Dr. Matthew Kole is board certified in neurosurgery and earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, he completed a fellowship in combined open cerebrovascular/skull base surgery and endovascular training at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Kole specializes in neuroendovascular surgery. He treats a wide range of cervical and cerebral vascular conditions, including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations of the brain, stroke, carotid and vertebral artery stenosis, spinal and intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulae, cavernous malformations of the brain and spine, intracerebral hemorrhage, moyamoya disease, intracranial atherosclerosis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) due to venous sinus stenosis, and vein of Galen malformation. He also offers treatment for meningiomas and other extra-axial brain tumors. He treats patients ages 18 and older.

Dr. Kole sees his job as educating patients and then involving them in decision-making about their own care. He compares medical conditions to things patients can relate to, using common language and terms they can easily understand.

Patients describe Dr. Kole as an excellent listener with a reassuring personality. He cares about his patients, spends time with them and values their opinions. He also clearly explains test procedures, test results, conditions and treatment plans.

He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology.

Dr. Kole and his wife live in west Houston’s Energy Corridor. In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing, golfing and running.
