Dr. Krish Vigneswaran, MD

Dr. Krishanthan Vigneswaran grew up in Sugar Land. He earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience and English at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he was recognized with distinction in research and elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Board certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Krish Vigneswaran treats adult patients with neurological diseases. Extensively experienced in elective spine surgery, Dr. Vigneswaran treats degenerative spine conditions with a combination of open surgery, minimally invasive techniques and robotic spine surgery. Dr. Vigneswaran subspecializes in neurosurgical oncology and manages brain and spine tumors. He treats these tumors using a range of surgical techniques from minimally invasive procedures for smaller pathologies to large, open complex procedures for advanced diseases. He has special expertise in treating benign and malignant tumors of the brain and spine using stereotactic neuro-navigation, intra-operative brain mapping, awake craniotomies, fluorescence-guided surgery, endoscopic surgery and other tools to provide safe resection of tumors. These tools allow for custom surgeries that target lesions with precision and help patients recover faster.

His approach to care involves talking to his patients about how they actually feel and correlating that information with objective findings from tests and imaging to develop individualized treatment plans. He truly believes in treating the patient, not the picture.

He also believes in including all stakeholders—not only patients and families, but the entire multidisciplinary team of health care professionals—in care planning. His patients appreciate his accessibility, availability and affability and that he answers their questions in understandable terms, using illustrative graphics to explain complicated conditions and procedures.

He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts and book chapters and has presented research at national and international conference.

A resident of West University Place in Houston, Dr. Vigneswaran is married to a pediatrician he’s known since his childhood in Sugar Land. They are the parents of a young son, and the family enjoys rooting for the Astros, Texans and Rockets.

He also speaks Spanish and Tamil.
