Houston native Dr. Joseph Herbert earned undergraduate degrees in cellular and molecular biology and Spanish at Texas Tech University in Lubbock and his medical degree at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Missouri in Columbia and a fellowship in spine neurosurgery at the University of Washington in Seattle.
His primary clinical interests are complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, neuro-trauma and neuro-oncology. Dr. Herbert treats patients ages 16 and older.
His extensive training ranges from ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery to the most complex open spine surgery, in addition to all aspects of spine and brain trauma, and management of spine and brain tumors.
Dr. Herbert’s approach to care focuses on listening carefully to patients and developing personalized and optimized treatment approaches around patients’ short and long-term goals.
He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and American Association of Neurological Surgeons and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Phi Beta Kappa.
A resident of Katy, Dr. Herbert likes spending as much time as possible with his wife, two children and his large extended family. Away from his practice, he enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, road trips and playing the piano.
Dr. Herbert is also fluent in Spanish
