Dr. Elvira Lekka earned a medical degree at the University of Florence in Italy and a doctorate in oncological surgery at the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom. She completed a neurosurgery residency and a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Salford Royal Hospital in the United Kingdom, followed by advanced fellowship training in neuroendovascular surgery and a second neurosurgery residency at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Dr. Lekka, who has been in practice since 2002, sees patients ages 18 and older. She treats a wide range of conditions affecting the brain, spine, and blood vessels of the nervous system, including brain and spinal tumors, aneurysms, vascular malformations, hydrocephalus, pituitary tumors, and complex brain tumors involving speech, movement, vision, and sensation. She also speaks Italian and Greek fluently.
She uses advanced surgical technologies, such as awake brain surgery with real-time brain mapping, minimally invasive laser treatments, endoscopic procedures and advanced imaging guidance, to improve safety during surgery and help achieve the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Lekka’s approach to care involves meeting patients where they are and taking the time to explain diagnoses and treatment options in clear, understandable terms. She believes in shared decision-making and objectively reviewing test results and imaging before developing a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs and goals.
The cornerstones of her practice are dedication, attention to detail, empathy and availability to patients. They value her calm, reassuring and confident manner and her ability to explain things clearly. Her patients also appreciate how she cares for them, values their opinions and involves them in their treatment plans.
A resident of the Energy Corridor, Dr. Lekka is married and the mother of two girls. In her leisure time, she enjoys playing the piano, tennis and walking on trails.
