Dr. Wei Zhao, MD

Dr. Wei Zhao earned an undergraduate degree in pharmacy at China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing, a master’s in biostatistics at the Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia and his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, N.Y. He completed his residency in adult neurology at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and a fellowship in intercranial EEG and epilepsy at the Texas Institute of Restorative Neurotechnologies at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where he served as chief fellow.

Dr. Zhao, who is board certified in neurology, specializes in epilepsy and sees adult patients. His clinical interests include anti-seizure medication adjustment, epilepsy in women of child-bearing age and during pregnancy, distinguishing between epileptic and non-epileptic events through event monitoring in the epilepsy monitoring unit, and presurgical workup for patients with medically refractory epilepsy. In addition to English, he also speaks Mandarin.

His background in pharmacy and biostatistics gives Dr. Zhao a unique perspective that combines a data-driven approach with patient-centered care. He strives to learn what is important to his patients, addressing their concerns and returning them to better functionality, including work, school or personal relationships. He focuses on communication and encourages his patients to actively participate in their care.

Away from his practice, Dr. Zhao enjoys running, with the goal of participating in the world’s major marathons from Boston to London and Tokyo. He is also working on earning his pilot’s license and instrument rating.
