Dr. Luis Cruz-Saavedra, is board certified in neurology and specializes in neurology and clinical neurophysiology, with a special clinical interest in epilepsy. After finishing his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Cruz-Saavedra earned his medical degree at the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine. He moved to Florida for advanced training, completing his residency in neurology at University of Florida Health in Jacksonville and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Dr. Cruz-Saavedra’s areas of expertise include video electroencephalography (EEG) interpretation in critical care, inpatient, routine and ambulatory settings; electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies; EMG-guided neurotoxin injections for spasticity, cervical dystonia and chronic migraine; and occipital nerve blocks. His fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and additional fellowship training in epilepsy, neuromuscular medicine, EEG and EMG allow Dr. Cruz-Saavedra to provide holistic neurological care and perform his specialty’s key procedures. He treats patients ages 18 years and older.
His approach to care begins with establishing a good relationship with each patient. He listens carefully and allows his patients to explain how they feel in their own words before directing the conversation toward medical concerns. Rapport, he feels, helps him gather vital information and gain trust before moving forward. As a result, patients find him easy to talk to and appreciate his ability to connect with them in person-to-person conversations.
Dr. Cruz-Saavedra is married and the father of two girls. A confessed foodie, he enjoys eating out with his wife and spending time with his family.
Dr. Cruz-Saavedra is fluent in Spanish.
