Dr. Michelle Shen earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in molecular and cellular biology from The University of Texas at Dallas and her medical degree at UT Health San Antonio Medical School. She completed her residency in general surgery at McGovern Medical School UTHealth Houston and a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Dr. Shen, who has been in practice since 2007, is board certified in surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. An assistant professor of surgery at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Shen has clinical interests in the full spectrum of benign and malignant breast-related issues in patients of all age groups. She provides comprehensive, personalized and evidenced-based care to patients diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as high-risk screening and surveillance.

Passionate and dedicated to the care of her patients, Dr. Shen treats each person as a member of her family. Patients describe her as supportive, empathic, communicative and caring. And they value her ability to clearly explain pathology findings and treatment plans and make them feel comfortable and at ease with their diagnoses. She also speaks Mandarin Chinese.
