Dr. Wasseem Skef earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center-Brighton (formerly St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston), a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a second fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the University of Pittsburgh.

Board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Skef has been in practice since 2012. He treats patients ages 18 and older. He also speaks Arabic.

His clinical interests include esophageal and foregut disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and motility issues; third-space endoscopy, including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM); transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF); tissue resection including endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and full thickness resection (FTR); esophageal physiology testing, including high-resolution esophageal manometry, pH testing and functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP); endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided liver biopsies; and portal pressure measurements.

In his dedication to patient care, Dr. Skef builds his practice approach on honest communication and empathy as he strives to provide the utmost in patient safety and clinical excellence.

A resident of the Heights, Dr. Skef likes to spend time with his family, which includes two cats. He also enjoys playing soccer, tennis and video games as well as watching TV shows and documentaries. He is an avid reader of nonfiction books.
