Dr. Subhajit Mukherjee, MD

Dr. Subhajit Mukherjee earned his medical degree from Calcutta Medical College of the University of Calcutta in India and master’s and PhD degrees in genetics, inflammatory bowel disease and probiotics research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Bronx VA Medical Center), Bronx, N.Y., and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Mukherjee sees patients ages 18 and older. His primary clinical interests are inflammatory bowel diseases, acid reflux (GERD), swallowing disorders, peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, H. pylori infection, celiac disease, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, colitis, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal tract cancer screening and prevention, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy. He also speaks Hindi and Bengali.

An assistant professor at UTHealth Houston, he serves as the director of its Interventional Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of gastroenterology and hepatology, with particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for a wide range of digestive and liver disorders.

By integrating the latest advances in medical research with personalized, patient-centered care, he develops individualized treatment plans designed to improve both clinical outcomes and quality of life. Patients regard him as a physician they can talk to freely and share their concerns and questions.

A resident of west Houston, Dr. Mukherjee is married and the father of two children. Away from his practice, he enjoys travel, trying new cuisines and listening to Indian classical music.
