Dr. Pritesh Mutha, MD

Dr. Pritesh Mutha earned his medical degree at Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, India, and a master’s in public health at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside in Pittsburgh, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at VCU Health System in Richmond, Virginia.

Dr. Mutha, who has been in practice since 2012, is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and lifestyle medicine. He treats patients ages 18 and older and also speaks Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and Marwari.

His clinical interests include pancreas disorders including pancreatitis, cysts and cancers; bile duct disorders including gallstones, cancers, stenosis of sphincter, biliary strictures and obstructive jaundice; esophagus disorders including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dysphagia, achalasia, cancers, strictures, Barrett’s syndrome and gastrointestinal bleeding; stomach disorders including gastroparesis, gastric intestinal metaplasia, gastric polyps, cancers, gastritis and ulcers; small intestine disorders including celiac disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, ulcers and cancers; and colon-related problems including diverticulosis.

He also performs upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR).

Dr. Mutha focuses on personalized care tailored to his patients’ needs. He spends time listening and thoroughly explaining the diagnosis and procedures in detail to enable them to make informed decisions. He also discusses changes in diet and lifestyle that help prevent, control and potentially reverse gastrointestinal diseases.

Away from his practice, Dr. Mutha enjoys reading, teaching, cricket and hanging out with his family and friends. He is married and lives in Richmond.
