Gastroenterologist Dr. Jigar Patel, who sees patients 18 and older, is board certified in internal medicine. After earning his undergraduate degree in microbiology from California State University in Northbridge, he completed his medical degree and an internship at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India. His internship and residency at MedStar Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center was followed by fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and advanced endoscopy at McGovern Medical School.

Dr. Patel’s primary clinical interests are complex polyp resection and advanced endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat disorders of the pancreas. He treats abdominal pain, weight loss, reflux disease and gastrointestinal motility disorders. Dr. Patel has advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy, particularly endoscopic ultrasound, colon polypresection and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) for management of complex pancreas disease.

At the foundation of Dr. Patel’s highly personalized approach to care is his desire to help patients improve their quality of life. He takes time to understand their symptoms and explain conditions and treatment plans in detail. One of the most satisfying aspects of his practice is diagnosing and treating pre-cancerous conditions, which allows his patients to avoid major illness.
