Dr. Shareefa Begum, MD

Dr. Shareefa Begum earned her medical degree at Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad. India. She completed an internship at Owaisi Hospital and Research Center and Princess Esra Hospital in Hyderabad, followed by a residency at Adventist Health Medical in Tulare, Calif., where she was recognized for two years with the Family Medicine Resident Award for Scholarship for Research.

Dr. Begum, who is board certified in family medicine, sees patients of all ages. She treats acute concerns such as common colds or ear infections and chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Dr. Begum’s clinical interests include women’s health, preventive care, mental health and chronic disease management. She speaks Hindi and Urdu.

Known for her strong interpersonal skills, good clinical judgement and cultural sensitivity, Dr. Begum sees not only symptoms and conditions, but also people and how their health affects their day-to-day lives. Her approach to patient care is based on her belief in collaborative, judgment-free relationship-building, which begins with listening first and treating second. She explains things to her patients in ways that make sense to them.
