Dr. Karla Alba earned her undergraduate degree in biology from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her residency in family medicine at UT Health San Antonio Medical School and a fellowship in reproductive health at the Institute for Family Health in New York City.
Dr. Alba, who is board-certified in family medicine, treats patients of all ages and speaks fluent Spanish. In addition to her board certification, she also holds a certificate in basic life support.
As a family medicine physician, she sees patients for acute care (such as flu, asthma and injuries), chronic care (such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, anxiety and depression) and preventative medicine, including cancer screenings. Her primary clinical interests include adolescent medicine, reproductive health, mental health and preventative medicine.
Dr. Alba’s approach to care is to provide team-based, patient-centered medicine that integrates mental health. She wants her patients to see her as understanding and caring and to feel that, as a team, they came up with the best treatment plan to fit the patient’s lifestyle.
Away from her practice, Dr. Alba enjoys family time, arts and crafts.
