Dr. Edith Akintokunbo, MD

Dr. Edith Akintokunbo earned her medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J. She completed her internship and residency in the Memorial Family Residency Program in Sugar Land and a fellowship in geriatrics and wound care at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Akintokunbo, who is board certified in family medicine and geriatric medicine, has been in practice since 2011. In addition to her areas of board certification, Dr Akinokunbo also specializes in wound care. She sees patients ages 17 and older and also speaks Yoruba and Ibo. Her primary clinical interests are preventive care, wellness, education, women's health, chronic disease management, geriatric care, geriatric syndromes and wound care.

With an emphasis on quality, comprehensive care and education, Dr. Akintokunbo’s practice philosophy focuses on collaborative relationships that tailor care to the needs and desires of each patient. She listens carefully to what they communicate, both verbally and non-verbally; conversations about routines, family, hobbies and life experiences teach her a lot about what is important to a person. Her patients appreciate her patience, kindness, understanding, collaborative attitude and the time she spends with them.

Dr. Akintokunbo is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Geriatrics Society and Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

A wife and mother, Dr. Akintokunbo lives in Fort Bend County. Her favorite leisure activities are cooking, traveling, spending time with her family and volunteering for her church, which is a big part of her life.
